As the First Global Day of Action kicks off, staff unions around the globe are campaigning for a more transparent, participatory, balanced and fair process to determine staff pay and conditions.
The objectives of this campaign are set out in the letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other heads of agencies. The global campaign comes on the heels of a significant deterioration in conditions for UN staff around the world, particularly in field and peacekeeping missions. The most recent decisions include a pay cut of 5 percent for staff in Geneva as well as 10 percent in Bangkok and 25 percent in Tokyo.
